Barron's in Hardin Co Kentucky in 1830

 5/27/21

As I was researching John Barron 1770 and John Barron 1800 in Hardin Co Kentucky in 1830 federal census record. I found A Tezin (?) Barron on the previous page of John Barron 1800.

Males 0/5yrs 1 20/29yrs 1

Females 10/14yrs 1 15/19yrs 1 60/69yrs 1 born between 1761-1770

I have no idea who this is. Are they related to John Barron. There is also a Jessee Barron on the same census.

Male 10/14 yrs 1, 30/39 yrs 1 which will put him being born between 1791-1800.

Also there was a Archibald Barron

Male 15/19 yrs 1, 40-49 yrs 1

Female 0/5 yrs 1, 30/39 yrs 1

He lived near Benjamin and Matthew Twidwell, they are related to Sarah Twidwell, she married John Barron 1800.

I have no idea if this Archibald is related to John Barron or not. I could not find them on the census for 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820 nor for 1840, and 1850 census.

If Tezin is the female or male of that house hold they would be as old as John Barron 1770, maybe they are either siblings, or I am wondering if it might be Susan Mattingly that married John Barron 1770? They are a couple doors away from each other per say. Is Jessee a sibling? to John Barron 1800? and is Archibald another sibling? that is older than John? The census spelled the last name the same for all of them "Barrens". I will keep my eyes out for these Barron's as I continue researching.

If you know of anything of these Barron's let me know.

Who is John Barron Daddy? Is it Samuel Cooksey Barron?

John Barron born before 1770 married Susan Mattingly. There has been speculation that his family line came from Charles Maryland and his father was Samuel Cooksey Barron. I wanted to see if this might be true or not. I and my uncles and a cousin took test on Ancestry.com. The results came in and I looked through my matches I saw two people who were descendants of Samuel Cooksey Barron son Augustine Barron show up on my test. I found another person who was a descendant of Thomas Hudson Barron. He was the son of John Barron and Susan Mattingly. We compared our matches they also had Barron's and Cooksey's from the Charles Maryland area. We also checked for the Burch's since Samuel married Millicent Burch and we both had the Burch family lines of Charles Maryland. I do feel very confident in this match.

I think Augustine Barron son of Samuel was in the same area as John Barron.  Augustine was in Nelson Ky in 1796. There is a marriage bond of him marrying Sarah Cissel, that has Thomas Mattingly as a witness. This tells me that Augustine knew Thomas Mattingly. This put another connection between the Mattingly's and Barron's beside John and Susan marriage during the same time frame. The Cissel's married into the Mattingly family line. I am not sure who this Thomas Mattingly is yet.

I still need to take the DNA test a step further and find others where I can compare through which chromosome and segment by triangulation. I would like to narrow down the Barron DNA Chromosome and segment the family line is on. We do have our raw data on Gedmatch and we are also on FTDNA and Ancestry.
Here is the Gedmatch kit#

I am hoping others who are from the Cooksey, Burch and Barron lines will compare our kits with yours and let me know if we match or not.

Update 5/27/2021

John Barron born about 1770 lived in Hardin Co. Kentucky. I was trying to see if I can find him Nelson Co Ky about the same time as Augustine Barron was there. Augustine married in nelson Co in 1796, and in 1810 he lived in Washington Co which was next to Nelson and Hardin Co. By 1820 Augustine moved to Union Co. The earliest record I found so far is of John Barron in 1805 being in Nelson Co. He sign his step daughter Sophia Dixon marriage bond.

Then after that in 1810 he was living in Elizabethtown in Hardin Co and then Little York, Hardin Co. I am not sure when he died. I think it may have been before 1830 since I have lost him in the census records.

Mattingly Family

5/26/2021

Its been awhile since I have updated my family tree blogs. I am hoping to do so. I have much to share on the various family lines.

My 5th great grandmother is Susan Mattingly. She married John Barron between 1791-1796, I believe in Nelson Co. Kentucky. This area of Kentucky use to be Virginia. Their son Thomas Hudson Barron was born in 1796. I saw someone a long time ago stating on their tree that he was born in Grayson Co. and without much research I added that info onto my tree. Years later after reviewing. I believe it is wrong, due to Grayson was formed in 1810 from Hardin Co. Hardin Co was formed from Nelson Co in 1792.

The Mattingly's came to this area in about 1786.

Susan Mattingly was married prior to John Barron. According to a letter written in 1893 by Benjamin Barron ( grandson of Susan Mattingly and John Barron) to Miles or Matthew Barron ( not sure which) his brother. Stating that Susan Mattingly was their grandmother. That she married Joseph Dixon , and they had 4 children name Joseph, Sophia Tracy, and Ann. Sophia married David Allen. Ann married William Johnson and Tracy married John Medcalf.

I did find on Sophia marriage record that states John Barron being her step father of her in 1805 in Nelson Co. I did find William Johnson and Joseph Dixon living next to each on the 1820 federal census for Bradstown, Nelson Kentucky. On the previous page their is a Phillip Mattingly born 1788. His father I believe is Philip who was one of the first settlers in the area. I don't have any information on him except that his was baptized in St Mary's Maryland in 1761 his godparents were Peter and Marget Mattingly.

Back to Susan children by her first marriage I did find William Johnson and John Medcalf living next to John Barron the son of John Barron and Susan Mattingly in Hardin Co Kentucky in 1830.

I saw some other family trees that stated Leonard Mattingly has a daughter name Susannah and some had Susan. I thought Leonard Mattingly may have been her father. I tried to use DNA on Ancestry to try to prove this relationship awhile back ago I had many DNA matches to this Mattingly group, but years has passed and Ancestry has removed many matches. I may have lost the connection to Leonard's family group as a positive link, linking Susan to him. I did see that Leonard's daughter Susannah married Absolm Ray and I almost thought it was my gal, but the dates don't match up along with the location where they lived. That marriage record was for 1792 and they had 8 children and lived in Merion Co. scratched that idea.

Back to the drawing board. Leonard had a couple brothers that came to Kentucky. One of them was William. On one of the family trees it states that he had a daughter name Susan. Is his daughter my gal? I have no idea yet. Also there was Philip Mattingly who was born 1761, now Susan was supposedly born in 1760. Is Philip her brother? I have no idea. I will need to check this out further.

I have not found a marriage record between Susan and John Barron yet. Nor any marriage record of her being married to Joseph Dixon either. So the mystery remains.

Tip: Its always a good idea to revisit your family tree to see if you can find anything new. And to double check your research. When I first was working on this line it was back in 2012. Yes, that was a long time ago and I wasn't too experience with researching. Today I am able to see my mistakes, and keep finding new information. I still make mistakes, but able to see them a bit quicker and correct them.
